Indian Wedding

In India, the traditional wedding ceremony is a scenario in which the groom represents the God Vishnu, a perfect match for the bride who is considered a valuable gift from the gods; as she is likened to the goddess Lakshmi. Normally, the bride’s wedding attire consists of an ornate sari and various accessories such as a necklace, bracelets, finger rings, nose rings, ankle bracelets, and toe rings; and when fully dressed, she resembles a goddess. Meanwhile, the groom is dressed in an elaborately designed traditional outfit. In southern India for example, the groom’s head is covered by a turban adorned with flowers which are believed to ward off any evil that could possibly disrupt this special occasion. Another age-old tradition is “Mehendi” or body painting on external parts of the bride’s body; usually with reddish-brown paint which is believed to signify the wealth and prosperity that the bride is expected to bring to the groom’s family.
